The Astros faced a tough, revamped Solano Mudcats opening weekend that came into Reno with an 8 - 2 record... they left 8 - 5! Friday's game kept the fans on their seats until the bottom of the ninth when Ryan Simpson hit a sacrifice fly to right field to drive in the winning run. Andy Ferguson led the way with 3 hits followed by Nate Kerr, Cisco Melendez, Simpson and new comer Andre Trahan. Cory Weglin started and pitched well enough to win but 5 errors by the Astros kept Solano in it. Quinn Monsma carried a 3 run lead to the ninth for closer KJ Cameron, but 2 of those errors tied the game and led to Simpson's heroics in the bottom half.

Saturday's doubleheader was exciting to the home fans as the Astros hit 6 home runs... 2 each by Jay Landreth and Ryan Simpson and solo shots by Ferguson and Adam Gardner. The Astros won the first one 15 - 2 and the second one 12 - 5. Former UNR star Kyle Howe got the win in the first one and recently released Houston Astro, Dave Dinelli got the win in the second. DInelli flashed 94 mph on the gun and had the Mudcats on their heels by hitting 5 batters!

Jay Landreth had 6 hits, Vince Romo, Seth Hill, Gardner and newcomer Johny Zepeda all had 3 hits in the doubleheader. The Astors take on the San Fransisco Seals this weekend.

The Reno Astros played an exhibition series against Redding Memorial Day Weekend.
Three Astros pitchers that pitched for Reno the week before were now facing Reno Astros
Hitters for the first time... and the pitchers won. Dave Dinelli and Quinn Monsma
combined for a 5 hitter with 10 strikeouts while Brandon Gottier pitched well enough
to win with 8 strikeouts and only 2 earned runs but the 5 Astros errors sealed the defeat.

On Saturday, Shayn Holbrook (Astro turned Tiger for the weekend) out dueled Kyle Howe for
the win with the Astros again making 4 errors. The Astros salvaged the last game as Cory
Weglin and KJ Cameron combined for the victory. Ryan Simpson had 4 hits including 2 home
runs and Jeff Tolotti had 3 hits leading the way offensively on the weekend.
