Tommy Mitchell #4

Tommy Mitchell, The heart and soul of The Reno Astros for the last 10 years, is battling throat cancer as we approach the 2009 season. Tommy wants to let everyone know that his familiar #4 will be back on the field this year when he is strong enough. Tommy is taking up the fight against cancer by speaking out against dipping and chewing tobacco.

The doctors have said it is undoubtedly the cause of his cancer and he will be temporarily breathing and eating out of a tube and undergoing radiation treatments because of his tobacco use. He doesn't ask for sympathy, he just asks that we make as many people aware of the dangers of dipping and chewing.
